Wheelbarrows have been around for centuries. The idea is said to have originated from China. It’s said that a man by the name of Chuko Liang (181-234) was the fist person to come up with the idea. There were numerous uses for the barrow, or cart as they were also called. One use was to enable the farmers to take their produce to market. Another important use was to put wounded soldiers on them on the battlefield and take them to safety. (Actually, I’m finding this quite interesting). There has been little change really over the years in the design of the barrow; the principle is still the same. James Dyson, the man that came up with those space age vacuum cleaners thought of a different design in the seventies, I think it was one of his earliest ideas. He replaced the wheel with a ball and called it a ball barrow, fascinating eh?
What next? Will we see an All Terrain Vehicle (A.T.V.) wheelbarrow with a solar panelled engine? If we did maybe they could use different materials like reclaimed wood or recycled plastic, the same products as you find in the Trax decking down at Inishowen (A.T.V.) & garden equipment…still awake?
Horticultural.
