CLEANING STAINLESS STEEL

Ian. I have a lot of stainless steel pots and equipment. Is there a safe method of getting them to shine, as they all look a bit grubby? Thanks T.H by e- mail

Reply. The safest method we have found to clean stainless steel is white vinegar. Put some onto a damp sponge or soft cloth and wipe the pot or utensil. I find the kettle cleans really well if it is still warm to the touch. You can buff the steel with a clean cloth afterwards to really bring out the reflections. If your sink is stainless steel and you have rust spots, pour lemon juice (fresh or bottled) on a soft cloth, sprinkle on cream of tartar (available in most supermarkets) and work into the rust stain. If the rust isn't immediately removed, let the mixture sit on the stain for a few minutes, then scrub and rinse.

General sink cleaning Baking soda is a great natural cleaner. Sprinkle on a sponge, scrub and rinse. If you want a great shine on the sink, pour club soda (fresh or stale) on a cloth and buff the sink. Drying the sink after every use helps prevent watermarks and rust.

STUBBON STAINS ON STAINLESS STEEL

Coffeepot stains Pour white vinegar in the pot and swish around; use a brush or sponge with the vinegar if further cleaning is needed. Rinse for a clean and deodorised pot.

Burned food on pots Dip a sponge in warm water, sprinkle baking soda on the food stain and scrub until the spill is removed. Rinse and dry
