5 MINUTES WITH - BRYAN GARDINER

Bryan is 25 years old and was born and bred in Newtowncunningham. In 2000 Brian completed his leaving cert and went on to complete his certificate and diploma in Electronics and Computers within Letterkenny Institute of Technology. This provided him with a solid foundation to achieve a first class Honours degree in University of Ulster, Magee. The learning doesn’t stop there though as he is currently studying a PhD in Computers. More specifically - Image Processing in the University of Ulster, Magee. Bryan is currently just over half way through his PhD study and hopes to complete in late 2009. Ideally, Brian would like to lecture at 3rd level when he finishes his studies.

As if studying a PhD isn’t time consuming enough, Brian is really happy to say that marriage is on the cards. In a years time he will be getting married to Catherine McBay. Like all weddings this will involve a great deal of organizing in itself. The pair are also planning and building their new home.

What music do you like?
I’m quite keen of a huge range of music, whether it has just been in the charts or the classic oldies. Normally if it has a beat, I’m happy to listen, not too sure about the dancing though!!

What would you never throw away?
Because I have an interest in computers and gadgets, I hate throwing away any kind of electrical leads connectors, adapters etc. If I ever do, I always seem to want that exact lead the very next week.

Have you been to the cinema recently, what did you see and was it any good?
I am definitely a huge fan of going to the cinema. The last thing that I saw was Vantage Point. Great action filled story that came together really well at the end. A must see.

What section of the newspaper do you turn to first?
Normally start at the start and end at the end. The only way to read a newspaper.

What is your idea of a good night out?
Those nights were you wake up the next morning with a sore side because you laughed so much with your friends the night before.

Have you a favourite TV programme?
Unfortunately I don’t get a chance to watch a lot of television but a few programmes that do suck me in would be Prison Break and Scrubs.

How do you relax?

I love relaxing by grabbing the guitar and sitting strumming a few songs with no one around to listen.

Where would you like to go for your holidays?
I would love to visit Australia. A place where I always wanted to go and hopefully some day I just might get the chance. (Fingers crossed)

Your idea of heaven?
Cadburys Chocolate factory. (Huge fan of chocolate).

Biggest fear?
Embarrassed to mention it but not at all a big fan of spiders.

Biggest thrill?
Porta Ventura Theme Park in Salou, Spain.

The world’s most irritating invention?
I think the one that gets me is the invention of the solar powered torch. They do exist but why??

Personal philosophy?
“If you can't convince them, confuse them” This really does work!!

Biggest disappointment?
When Sarah Tancredi was killed off Prison Break. Still not fully over it!!

World’s most useful invention?
Adding loads of extras to mobile phone (mp3 players, GPS systems etc). The addition of these means that I can carry one device that does all things that I need.

Any last words?
People’s mood depends on yours. Keep positive and that will help the people around you to be positive
